A Warm Welcome from the  Principal.

Welcome to the school website for Katikati Primary School.

We are a large rural school situated in the sunny Western Bay of Plenty, just 30 minutes north of Tauranga.

Katikati Primary School is a vibrant learning community. Our highly skilled staff strive to provide the best possible learning experiences based on formative assessment practices and the use of the Inquiry teaching approach to learning. A recent visit by the ERO team found that we are a high performing school, providing quality education for our children, so please take time to check out our up-dated report which is now available on the ERO website (ERO Report 2009) and on our own website. Excellence in the academic, cultural and sporting arenas is promoted. Our learning programmes are ably assisted by a dedicated staff of support personnel.

Literacy and Numeracy are our key learning areas for children and these are complemented by learning experiences in the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Science, E.O.T.C., Social Sciences and Technology. We also provide many opportunities for our children to experience a range of new experiences that include:

• A Maori immersion class.

• A cooking centre for bio-technology and nutrition programmes.

• An in-school music programme staffed by skilled tutors – includes orchestra.

• Reading Recovery and Special Needs programmes.

• Environment Education – beach safety, aquatic skills.

• An array of sports supported by a Sports Co-ordinator.

• Cultural groups – Maori and Tongan.

• Enviro. school activities.

It is our intention to equip each child with the learning skills they require for their next stage of learning, so when they leave to go to the College, or to another school, eachin dividual is achieving to the best of their ability and they have learnt the knowledge and the skills to become Active Thinkers, Life Long learners for the 21st century.

Welcome to our learning community.
