Spelling is fun!!!

In Room 11 we have been having fun learning about how words work with some cool games.  ’ We have to make words with the letters.  It doesn’t seem like we are learning, but we are!

We have been working hard to add interesting words to our writing to make the reader want to read on.  the spelling games help us to learn new words we can use in our writing.

Year 4 children donned their togs and braved the cooler weather.  Their enthusiasm and willingness to participate in the swimming sports was great to see.  Once again it was fabulous to see so many KKPS parents, and the children enjoyed the support of both parents and their peers.  There was cheering and encouragement as the children challenged themselves in the pool.  We were impressed with the sportspersonship of our children and display of ERIC’s values.

As part of our writing in Room 11 we have been interviewing our peers to find out why

they think Katikati Primary School is a great school.

“This is Alisha Watson reporting news on why Katikati Primary School is a great place to be.”

“Rosie….What do you say for KKPS?”

“Well KKPS is a good place to be because it is safe and it has an awesome back field.”

“Lana…..what do you say?”

“The thing I love about KKPS is that we get to play with our friends.  We also learn heaps

about writing and maths.  My favourite thing to do is Inquiry.”

“Tommaso…..what are you going to say?”

“Hmmm, that it has a big and enjoyable playground, where we make great new friends.”

“Thank you Rosie, Lana and Tommaso for letting me interview you.”

“Hi, I am Stephanie and here we are at Katkati Primary School, interviewing Alana White.

She says that KKPS has lots of people to care for you, because we are like a family.”

“Now we are here with Andrew Blake.  What do you like about KKPS?”

“Well there are heaps of fun places to play.”

“Where do you like to play?”

“On the adventure playground.”

“Thank you Andrew.”

Our Rugby World Cup Map

Our Rugby World Cup Map

My finger painted crocodile

My finger painted crocodile

Students from Room 10 were on a world search this week looking for all the countries that are involved in the Rugby World Cup.  Students paired up to find the colour of each country’s flag, rugby uniform and where their country is in the world.  This proved to be challenging when having to put each country on the world map on the wall!

Anthony is showing his fantastic ‘crazy crocodile’ finger paint art.  I wonder what this crocodile has been eating…..

We like trying to improve our writing

We like trying to improve our writing

We are all authors!

Room 11 have been working hard to improve their writing!

We are all authors and we know that authors plan their writing, and create a first draft.  Then they read their writing to see if there is anything they can do to improve it.  We have been working with a buddy to see what we are doing well, and what we need to do to make our writing more interesting.

We think an interesting start to our writing makes the reader want to keep reading.  We have been working on starting our writing.  Next we will work on the middle of our writing, and then the end.

Here are some samples of exciting beginnings from our authors.

Luckily I had encountered this type of obstacle before.  I scrambled up and jumped down off the rubbery, black tyres.

Kailan

The tunnel was like a dark cave, with only a small glimpse of sunlight at the end.

Tommaso

Slowly I whirled and twisted like a worm slithering out of bed underground.  I knew that I had to get up out of my warm cosy bed.

Alisha W

I listen to a sound and realise what it is.  Struggling to get out of bed, I stumble over and turn my alarm clock off.  Is it that time already?

Funky Fun Day!

What a fun day it was for 54 Middle School students!!!  Nine children from each class went on a bus to Mount Action Centre to compete against other schools in a range of sports – Touch Rugby,  Mini Ball and Hockey, to name a few.  Many of these students had never participated in a team sport before and it was a great opportunity for them to work together in a fun environment.  It was a positive experience for all involved.

Maths Is Fun

We had a great afternoon showing the parents/caregivers how we learn maths at school.  Some parents even joined in some games and had fun with us.

Here is what some parents had to say.

My Dad told me that when he learnt maths it was so different to how we do it.
Mum liked playing the game with me.  She said they didn’t play games to help them learn maths when she went to school – she thinks we are very lucky!
I love doing maths – it’s fun!!!

Here are some photos.
