As you may know all the Senior School had a House Challenge Day on 09/03/2018. This day was filled with many challenges such as: Bigfoot; Pool Relays; Beach Flags and Big Ball Soccer. All of the seniors worked together from year 4, 5 and 6. This event was to help the houses to work together and build teamwork. Thank you to all the teachers who helped put on this great event. Below are some of the things we learnt as leaders taking part in these activities.
Six members of our team had their feet strapped on to two long planks and we had to work together to walk across the field.
We learnt that you have to work as a team and listen to what others have to say. The person at the front was mostly in charge and making the decisions. Most teams were saying 3, 2, 1, left, right - so that everyone moved at the same time.
Our team had to line up one behind the other. The person at the front dipped the cup into a bucket of water. They then had to pass the water over their head until it got to the person at the back. The one at the back put the water in the bucket. Whoever had the most water in the bucket at the end won.
We learnt that you had to listen to the person behind you to make sure they were ready or you got soaked. We had to go slow otherwise the person behind you didn’t have time to get ready.
We had to fill up our bucket by scooping water with a spade and then carry it over the playground to the end. The team that had the most water in their big bucket won the game.
We learnt that it was better to go slowly than to rush. We had to take care over all of the obstacles and remember to cheer on our team mates.
Water Slide Rounders
Water Slide T-ball is like normal T Ball but the place where you run to get a home run was made of water slides. We had to slide around four water slides. For each time we ran around all the water slides, we scored a homerun. I was in team 5, we versed team 11 and we lost because we got 5 home runs and they got 15. But we still had fun and enjoyed having a free play on the water slides at the end until the bell rang to go back to our meeting place.
We learnt that we needed to tell each other when to run otherwise one of our team-mates got out and we scored less points. We had to tell team-mates when to run as they couldn’t see behind them. The waterslide made it more difficult but kept us cool.
Sand pit - big soccer, beach flags, rob the nest
For the beach flags we had to pick who would represent the house but it was really hard.
For big soccer the leaders had to pick who would take part. The teacher threw it in and we had to get it into the other team’s net. We had to work as a team to know who was the goalie and who was doing what.
By taking part on all these activities, these are some of the things we learnt about leadership and teamwork:
