In Harakeke Pod they have been looking at the legend 'Sina and the Eel'. During writing time the students wrote a retell of the story. With Sina and the Eel in mind and because it was Cook islands Week, they decided to make a Tapa cloth. Harakeke Pod have also been learning about their brains and how it control our thoughts, feelings, actions and memory! Have a look below at some of Harakeke Pods awesome retells and artwork they have been done!
Sina and the Eel retells

A long time ago there lived a beautiful girl with long dark hair. Her name was Sina. She had befriended a long shiny eel. As the eel grew larger he became more demanding. Soon he fell in love with Sina but Sina was frightened. She ran to tell her relatives. She told her uncle and cousin about the eel and how he frightened her. Soon her cousin was sent to kill the eel and her cousin severed the eels head. In the eels last breath he asked Sina to bury his head, so Sina did. A tree grew with refreshing nectar from the fruit that it grew. The fruit was a coconut and it had the face of the eel. Two eyes and a mouth so when Sina drank the fruit she would in fact be kissing him.

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Sina. She was as pretty as a flower. Every night she would visit her friend the eel. They would talk and he said once he was a prince and they would swim together. After a while the eel got bigger and bigger and Sina got more and more scared because the eel fell in love with Sina and started demanding for Sinas love. Sina ran away. When she looked in the water she could see the face of the eel, so Sina ran to a village. Sina ran to find her uncle and cousin. Sinas cousin said he would go and confront the eel, so Sinas cousin chopped the eels head off. In the eels last words he said “ can you please bury my head”. So Sina buried the eels head and it grew into a beautiful palm tree. When Sina drank from a coconut she was in fact kissing the eel.
