Kowhai Pod

In Kowhai Pod they read a book called the 'The Woven Flax Kete'. They were learning about taonga and that taonga (treasure) doesn't have to be things you can touch, taonga might be something such as care or kindness.

They then talked about what was special to each of them, our families and what they thought was special to Katikati Primary School. They used this as a writing activity. Once they had done this they learnt about the drafting stage of artwork. Each student was given three separate pieces of paper and had to think about how they were going to fill the space.

Once they had completed their drafts, they were given calico to paint onto. Once each panel was dry they then added details with black felt.

The three separate panels were then sewn together, and each student learnt to plait pieces of fabric together for the wall hangings handle.

Have a look at what they created
