This Term in Matakana Pod we have been researching the teacher strike. We have written a piece of persuasive writing about our opinion. Watch and read our writing below.

Teacher’s should go on strike
Written by Abby O

Teacher’s get 12 cents per student, per hour. Do you think that’s enough? I don’t! I think teachers should go on strike. There is more than just this reason, teacher’s also have to put up with rude kids, teacher’s work really hard to help kids and teachers don’t get paid enough.

Firstly, I think teachers should go on strike because teachers have to put up with rude kids. Kids that shout and swear, hit and punch and also spit at the teacher’s thinking it funny or they can’t help it. Teachers need more teacher aides or some kids are going to get really hurt.

Secondly, teacher’s work really hard to help kids. Did you know that there has been a 40% drop in teacher training. Teachers do more than just teaching for example they write reports, tie your shoelace, mark your books and get you lunch when you don’t have it. Now you know teachers do more than just teaching.

Thirdly, teachers don’t get paid enough. For example babysitters get $10 per hour and teachers get 71 cents per student, per day. If this keeps on going teachers will not be able to pay their bills. If teachers get a pay rise maybe more teacher’s will come into school’s.

As you can see teacher’s should go on strike because teacher’s have to put up with rude kids, teacher’s work really hard to help kids and they don’t get paid enough. So think about. What will we do without teachers?

Teachers should go on strike!

Do you think teachers should go on strike? Well I do! There are not enough teachers. Teachers are not getting paid enough! They not only pay for themselves but they pay for things for the students too!

Firstly, I believe teachers should go on strike because we need more teachers. Principals are having no choice but to hire non qualified teachers. In this situation kids won’t get the learning they need. Last year, six hundred vacancies for teachers were advertised but none were taken.

Secondly, teachers are not being paid enough! In fact teachers need to be paid more because they pay for most of the students school supplies to help students succeed in their learning. In other words teachers are having to spend their pay on the students.

Teachers do a lot for the students, way more than we expect at least! Teachers pay bills and for food, but to most of our surprise, for us too. Teachers spend their money and time on most of the students school supplies and planning too.

For these reasons, I hope you agree with me that teachers should go on strike. Teachers need more money, they do many things for us and we need more teachers! Who will teach the future without teachers?
Why teachers should go on strike

Do you think teachers should go on strike? Hi, my name is Dylan and I'm here to tell you, yes you, why teachers should go on strike.

Firstly teachers don't get paid enough money. The cost of living has gone up but teachers pay has not! Babysiters get paid $10 an hour but teachers get paid 12 cents per student, per hour!

Secondly, teachers have to put up with children swearing, yelling and screaming. Teachers get frustrated and normally quit their jobs. Kids should have more respect for what they are learning and should be thankful.

Thirdly, there are not enough teachers.  There has been a teacher shortage by 40%. That means kids won’t get smarter and accomplish their dreams.

In conclusion teachers should go on strike. Teachers should get more money, students should have more respect and there should be more teachers. Without a doubt teachers should go on strike!
