This week the year 5&6 have been doing cycle safety. The year 5&6 had to bring their bikes and helmets to school to be able to participate in this event. We have had some cycle safety instructors come to our school and teach us some skills and rules to make sure we are safe while cycling on the road.

We had one day talking about being safe on our bikes. We watched a video about a boy called William and discussed the bad choices that he made on his bike.

We learnt that when we are riding on a bike we need to have bright clothes on so other people on the road can see us. We also learnt that we should not wear baggy clothes when we are riding because the clothes could get caught in the chain or the wheel on our bike which could make us hurt ourselves or fall over.

We learnt the ABC check for our bikes A stands for air in our tyres B stands for are your breaks working and lastly C stands for chain the chain needs to be oily not rusty or brown so the chain can work. The instructors set up a skills cause for us to go through on our bikes.

On Thursday and Friday we will go out on the road to ride our bikes and to demonstrate that we know how to ride safely on the road.
